School Violence Essays (353 words) - Metal Detecting, Metal Detector
School Violence Remember the Jonesboro, Arkansas incident? How about Columbine? Or maybe the most recent in Mt. Morris Township Michigan where a six year old girl was killed in her classroom. Should there be metal detectors in school? I believe so, a lot of people think not. I'll debate their reasons with my own reasoning. Three reasons people argue against the need for metal detectors in schools are:: 1. It is an invasion of their privacy. 2. The cost is too great. 3. The procedure of going through metal detectors is too time consuming. First, some people say that metal detectors invade their privacy. I'm sorry, but honestly what is so private? All they do is make sure no one has weapons, their not interested in your personal life. Also if something is so important you have to hide it, it should not be in school. Second, some feel it is too costly, or it takes lots of money out of the schools budget. Well, I feel you can't put a price on someone's life. The people of Columbine never thought that a massacre could happen at their school, but it did and it COST them fifteen lives that could have been saved. In retrospect, I'm sure they would have preferred to live with the stigma of having metal detectors in their school if they could have back those fifteen lost lives. Finally, there is the issue of ?wasting? too much time. If the worse were to happen you wouldn't have to worry about wasting time, there would be no time left. If you need that extra time to save just one life, in my opinion, it was well worth the time it took. In conclusion, if you feel just one life isn't important enough for metal detectors don't bother. Although, if I was a principal no matter what the cost or the reputation I received, I would want my students to feel safe and secure in their school. Schools should be considered a safe zone, and if we don't feel safe in our schools why are we sending our children there? Political Science

Spanish Diminutive Suffixes
Spanish Diminutive Suffixes Just because something is diminutive in Spanish doesnt necessarily mean its small. Diminutives May Soften Meaning or Show Affection Spanish speakers frequently use the diminutive suffixes such as -ito not only to indicate size but also to make a word less harsh or to indicate affection. Just as you can imagine someone referring to a 6-foot-tall adult son as my little boy or to a full-grown beloved pet as a doggy, so it is that the Spanish diminutives, although often translated using the English word little, often indicate more about the speakers feelings toward the person or object than to its size. The most common Spanish diminutive suffixes are -ito and -cito along with their feminine equivalents, -ita and -cita. In theory, these suffixes can be added to almost any noun, and they are sometimes used with adjectives and adverbs as well. The rules arent hard and fast as to which suffix is used; the tendency is that words ending in -a, -o or -te form the diminutive by dropping the final vowel and adding -ito or -ita, while -cito or -ecito is added to other words. Also commonly used as a diminutive suffix are -illo and -cillo along with their feminine equivalents, -illa and -cilla. Other diminutive suffixes include -ico, -cico, -uelo, -zuelo, -ete, -cete, -à n and -ià ±o along with their feminine equivalents. Many of these suffixes are more popular in some regions than others. For example, the -ico and -cico endings are quite common in Costa Rica, and its residents are nicknamed ticos as a result. The diminutive suffixes tend to be a spoken phenomenon of Spanish more than a written one, and they are more common in some areas than others. In general, though, they are used far more than English diminutive endings such as the -y or -ie of words such as doggy or jammies. You should keep in mind some words in diminutive form may not be understood the same way in all areas, and that their meanings can vary with the context in which they are used. Thus the translations given below should be seen as examples only and not as the only translations possible. List of Diminutive Uses Here are the most common ways the diminutive suffixes are used in Spanish: To indicate something is small: casita (little house, cottage), perrito (puppy or little dog), rosita (little rose, rose blossom)To indicate something is charming or endearing: mi abuelita (my dear grandmother), un cochecito (a cute little car), papito (daddy), amiguete (pal)To provide a nuance of meaning, especially with adjectives and adverbs: ahorita (right now), cerquita (right next to), lueguito (quite soon), gordito (chubby)To give a friendly tone to a sentence: Un momentito, por favor. (Just a moment, please.) Quisiera un refresquito. (Id like just a soft drink.) à ¡Despacito! (Easy does it!)To talk to very young children: pajarito (birdy), camisita (shirty), tontito (silly), vaquita (cowie)To indicate something is unimportant: dolorcito (tiny ache), mentirita (fib), reyezuelo (petty king), me falta un centavito (Im just a penny short)To form a new word (not necessarily a diminutive of the original): mantequilla (butter), panecillo (bread roll), bolsillo (pocket), cajetilla ( packet), ventanilla (ticket office), carbonilla (cinder), caballitos (merry-go-round), cabecilla (ringleader), nudillo (knuckle), vaquilla (heifer), de mentirijillas (as a joke) Note: The diminutive -ito ending should not be confused with the -ito ending of some irregular past participles such as frito (fried) and maldito (cursed). How Important Film Direction is Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
How Important Film Direction is - Essay Example Use of right themes in all areas develops the right shade of emotional psychology in the actors which reflects in their acting and wins them the appreciation of millions of audiences after the film is released. The director selects the costumes for the actors keeping in view several factors that include but are not limited to the demand of the role of the actor, the situation, the context, the background, the mood, and the light effects. The director selects colors for the sets and everything contained in them (Lumet, 1996, p. 9). There are certain colors that give the scene a gloomier feel while there are other colors that lend a vibrant and flamboyant touch to the theme. Nobody but the director decides what shade of a color is appropriate since the wrong shade of a right color for a scene makes the color the most inappropriate choice. The director positions the actors and various objects in their surroundings in such a way that they interact with one another and are meaningfully in cluded in the video. The importance of a director can be estimated from the fact that it is fundamentally the director who makes a film different from a book, and lends the film its own unique individuality. There have always been books for the stories, but the idea of converting a story into a film fundamentally emerges from the direction, as all it takes to make a video falls into the domain of a directorââ¬â¢s responsibilities. One of the prime responsibilities of a director is to remove any ambiguities which may arise between the producer and the actors along the way. ââ¬Å"It is the directorââ¬â¢s job to mediate any concerns the actor has about the writing or the writer has about the actingâ⬠(Weston, 1996, p. 119). The director is like the sailor of the ship. It depends, to a large extent, upon the capability of the director whether the ship will make it to the destination or sink on its way to the destination.à Ã

Preventing Computer Vision Syndrome :: Health Vision Computer Essays
Preventing Computer Vision Syndrome Many people in todayââ¬â¢s world experience a number of discomforts in relation to spending too much time in front of a computer. These discomforts are especially common for students at Iowa State University because computer technology is used for most of the classes taught here. Many students are unaware of the damage that they are doing to themselves by staring at computer screens for extended periods of time. This paper will describe some of the effects that these students may experience which include: dry, burning eyes; blurred vision; delayed focusing; altered color perception; headaches; tired eyes; eyestrain; sore eyes; red eyes; contact lens discomfort; glare sensitivity; excessive tearing; neck, shoulder and back pain (intersights). Collectively, these symptoms have been termed Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) by the American Optometry Association (eye2eye). The purpose of this paper is to make students aware of some of the effects of long hours spent in front of a computer, and what they can do to prevent these effects. This paper will cover the causes of common effects of Computer Vision Syndrome in detail so that students are aware of the causes as well as the effects of extended amounts of computer usage. When the students know that their computer is the source of the discomforts described below, they will be able to easily prevent these discomforts. Ultimately, this paper will help students become much more efficient in their computer work when they know what causes the effects of Computer Vision Syndrome are and how they can prevent them. What Are the Causes of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)? When a person is looking at a computer screen, that person is processing information at a very rapid rate. The human eye is designed to see clearly at distances of three to twenty feet away without any accommodations, and at this range our eyes traditionally experience no discomfort. When the average person is looking at a computer screen, that screen is usually around twenty inches away from the eyes. The eyes must continually expand and contract to continually refocus to compensate for this small distance. The eye is just not designed to be able to handle staying contracted for any amount of time, and the result is tired, dry, and very sore eyes (eye2eye). The images and text on a computer screen are composed of pixels. Pixels are tiny dots that are bright in the center and fuzzy on the edges and are usually accompanied by backgrounds that do not lend a strong contrast to the written text.

Introduction to Planning Function. Human resource planning is the process whereby organizations determine the staffing support they will need to meet business needs and customer demands. There are a variety of considerations that impact this planning, including impending retirements and transitions, the availability of employees with certain skills sets and changes in the environment that may require training for existing employees. Human resource planning is important and ongoing because of both internal and external environmental changes.Internally, businesses are impacted by turnover and retirements. Externally, they are impacted by changes in technology, changes in the economy, and changes in the industry and consumer demand that may require skills that do not currently exist within the company. All of these impacts have an effect on the type and numbers of employees that are needed for the business to remain successful. MM Distributing Agencies. Organizational Structure Mr. Manjula Madurapperuma. Mr. Manjula Madurapperuma. Mr. Ajith Jayathunga Mr. Ajith JayathungaAnuradhapura Branch Manager Anuradhapura Branch Manager Avissawella Branch Manager Avissawella Branch Manager Nuwara Eliya Branch Manager Nuwara Eliya Branch Manager Each and every branch is consistent with a Branch manager, Sales Manager, Stock Keeper and an IT manager. Sales Managers, Stock Keepers and IT managers work under the supervision of their particular branch manager. All these managers have authority to plan, and recruit and select candidates to their branches or to the particular section. Only the management positions are filled under the supervision of Mr.Manjula Madurapperuma and Mr. Ajith Jayathunga Current HR Planning Process at MM Distributing Agencies. Eve n though MM Distributing Agencies is engaged in business in a considerably successful manner, the organization does not have a proper planning process. And also it does not have a HR department. HR managersââ¬â¢ duties are done by the each branch manager. Currently the Sales Managers, Stock Keepers and IT managers at each branch have the authority to plan, and recruit and select candidates to their branches or to the particular section under the supervision of their particular branch manager. When there is a position to be filled these managers ask their current employees for help or they go for recruitment at gate option. According to Avissawella branch manager this organization does not have a HR database and a successful planning process, when they have a vacant position they temporarily hire employees for the particular vacant position until they find a suitable person to hire permanently. And the managers admit that it is a costly process. And also they admit that temporarily hired employees cannot be trusted. Both Avissawella and Nuwara Eliya branch managers have faced problems with temporarily hired workers stealing products from the organization and with their bad behavior. These problems are results of not having HR department, a HR database and a proper planning process in the organization. According to Mr. Manjula Madurapperuma, they have tried to establish two distributing agencies at Kurunegala and Kegalle, but both times they have failed to keep those agencies running. It is clear all those failures were occurred because the organization did not have a proper planning process. These weaknesses can affect the organizationsââ¬â¢ success. Current Problems of The HR Planning Process at MM Distributing Agencies. * This organization does not have a HR Department. * Organization does not maintain a HR database. * Does not have a proper planning process. * Managers quickly plan solutions for problems like employee turnover, retirements and market losi ng and they fail at implementing those plans. * Branch managers have to work as HR managers too. * Some managerial solutions like temporarily hiring workers cost a huge amount of money and resources to the organization.Recommendations for improvement * Owners of this organization should hire a HR Manager and required other employees and have a HR Department in this organization. * HR Department should maintain a HR database about available employees to inform them and to hire them when there are vacant positions to be filled. * Owners of MM Distributing agencies should meet their managers time to time and make plans for the future of the organization and should implement them carefully. Otherwise the remaining three branches of MM Distributing agencies will eventually fail.
